ICANN has approved .ky as the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Cayman Island, an overseas territory of the United Kingdom in the western Caribbean Sea. The registration service for .ky extension is managed by the Information and Communications Technology Authority (ICT). The .ky registrar accepted the uniform domain name dispute resolution policy from ICANN on 1st October 2003.
All applicants wishing to obtain a .ky registration must be familiar with the domain policies of Cable and Wireless Limited. Domain name registration with .ky extension is allowed only for residents of the Cayman Island and entities registered with the Cayman Islands Companies Registry. Registrants must possess a local address and telephone number in the Cayman Island. Domain names can be created with alphanumeric characters (including numbers, English alphabets and the hyphen) but cannot begin or end with a hyphen.
The .ky top level domain code is categorized into a number of second level domains. Some sub-domains are:
- .gov.ky for Cayman Island government departments
- .edu.ky for local educational establishments
- .com.ky for both commercial organizations and personal sites
- .net.ky for Internet service providers
- .org.ky for non-commercial organizations
- .aero.ky for air transport industry
- .biz.ky for business usages
- .coop.ky for cooperatives
- .info.ky for informational sites
- .museum.ky for museums
- .name.ky for families and individuals
The correctly filled application form must be submitted online to the domain administrator. Applicants will receive an e-mail from the domain administrator when their request is granted. The newly approved domain name with .ky registration will be activated within 72 hours, counting from the time of approval.
