The Council of Hungarian Internet Providers is the sponsoring organization for .hu domain registration. The .hu domain names are most commonly used by individuals connected with Hungary. These domains are available to individuals and companies in Hungary or the European Union. The .hu domain extension has been available since March 1, 2000.
The sub domain allocation policy of Hungary permits the registration of sub domains for .hu extensions. A few of the sub domains allowed are .gov.hu, .edu.hu, .org.hu, .co.hu, .ac.hu, .shop.hu, .media.hu, .film.edu, .info.hu, .news.hu, priv.hu, and video.hu , although many more are also available. Securing a sub domain is the best way for companies to develop a presence in Hungary. Multiple domains are also allowed. The .hu domain names give Hungarian websites a local identity and allow the user to access the web pages more quickly.
For .hu registration, local presence in the country is required. You must be a citizen or have a registered company in Hungary. The council of Hungarian Internet providers offers .hu domain names and charges a registration fee of $ 250.00 for a two year registration contract. All the management operations for the .hu domain registration are handled by the Council of Hungarian Internet Providers.
There are some rules for creating .hu domain names. The .hu domain name can have characters up to 40 excluding 4 characters for top level domain. Only alphabetic letters, numbers and hyphens can be used. The hyphen cannot be used in the beginning or the end of the domain name. The .hu domain name includes free web space and three email boxes with 1 GB each.
After successful registration, you will receive a notification in your billing email address provided in the necessary documentation. Your domain name will be active on the internet within 24 hours of the notification.
